MLB: Derek Jeter Retires

In Derek Jeter's last home game at Yankee Stadium, he knocked in a runner in the bottom of the ninth, to put the Yankees over the top and win what had been a tie game.  Having won the game over Baltimore, as he passed their dugout, he congratulated them on winning the pennant, and they tipped their caps to him.

Derek Sanderson Jeter  was born June 26, 1974, in New Jersey.  He is an American baseball shortstop who is playing in his 20th and final season in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees.

A five-time World Series champion, Jeter is regarded as a central figure of the Yankees' success of the late 1990s and early 2000s for his hitting, baserunning, fielding, and leadership. He is the Yankees' all-time career leader in hits, games played, stolen bases, and at bats.

His accolades include 14 All-Star selections, five Gold Glove Awards, five Silver Slugger Awards, two Hank Aaron Awards, and a Roberto Clemente Award. Jeter is the all-time MLB leader in hits by a shortstop, and the 28th player to reach 3,000 hits.

Derek Jeter plays his last games in pro baseball this weekend at the Boston Red Sox.
