Texas vs. Notre Dame. What a game!

It was a barnburner of a game, Sunday night, which welcomed winning football back to Texas, as the Longhorns beat the Number 10 Fighting Irish of Notre Dame 50-47 in a double overtime thriller.  It was a night of discovery for both teams.

Texas has not fared well since the days of Colt McCoy, and their lead role in the destruction of the Big 12 Conference.  Notre Dame was reeling from the arrest of several players and charges of marijuana possession.  With the dismissal of one player and disciplining of others, the golden domers were trying out players in new positions.

It was a hot, sweaty, and occasionally rainy night, too, at Texas Memorial Stadium.  Notre Dame drew first blood, scoring with impunity against the Texas defense, but the game was tied going into halftime. Texas gained a commanding third quarter lead in a matter of a few plays, which made it seem that they were sure to win, but ND came back to tie the game within a few minutes, before that quarter ended.  Notre Dame then went ahead and seemed like the sure winner, until Texas rebounded, and the squads went into not one, but two overtimes.

Texas quarterback Tyrone Swoopes lunged in a six yard touchdown run to snatch the victory in a game both teams should be proud of (but won't be).

It was a great game to help kick off College Football 2016.
