Breaking: World Cup 2026 awarded to USA, Canada, Mexico

A united proposal from the United States of America, los Estados Unidos Mexicanos, and Canada, has just received the nod from the international governing agency for soccer, FIFA, to act as hosts for the 2026 World Cup of Soccer. The other finalist was Morocco, but earlier strong bids had been proposed by soccer powerhouses like Spain.

The opening game will take place in the USA, and several of the group play games will take place in Canada and Mexico, perhaps 10 each.  Final rounds will take place in the US.  It is rumoured that the venerable Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California (near Los Angeles) may be the venue for the opening game, and the Giants' Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey (near New York City) for the Championship.  Of the total 80 games involved in the 2026 World Cup, the USA is proposed to host approximately 60 of them.

It is said that almost all of the stadiums proposed are ready to use as is.  Just a few would need renovation, but no new stadium construction or last minute infrastructure would be necessary.   No fuss.  No muss.  Lots of profit.

At this moment it is believed that all three countries would receive automatic bids to the tournament. This would be a boon to Canada, which qualified and participated in Soccer's premier event only once before in history, in 1986. The US has often appeared in recent decades, but did not qualify for this year's soccer fest in Russia.
