Steele Sidebottom is a
professional Australian rules football player currently playing for the
Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League. Sidebottom was
selected by Collingwood with selection 11 in the 2008 AFL Draft at age 17.
He is the youngest of
five brothers, and was born on January
2, 1991 (age 26) in Victoria, Australia.
Sidebottom grew up
as the "baby" of five boys in
a family that was sports-obsessed. The
brothers even arranged their own footy goalposts and cricket nets in their
backyard at Tallygaroopna, even though the local sports oval was, quite
literally, over their back fence.
His number at
Collingwood is 22. He is 5′
11″(180 cm) tall, and weighs 185 lbs (84 kg).
He has been a consistently good player for the Collingwood Magpies. He suffered his first major injury in 2015,
but has bounced back from his furlough.
His older brother Ryan
plays Cricket for the Victorian Bushrangers.
His nicknames include Bluescope and Rusty. Around his home and his brothers he is always
Rusty.
He has an unusual
talent, he is known for having memorized the brand names and colors of all of
the footy boots of the great majority of players in the AFL:
Some players play
well, some are fun to watch. It will be
fun to watch Steele Sidebottom play well in the rest of this season and in the
years ahead.
