The 2018 Australian Football League season
will be the 122nd season of the elite Australian rules football competition. The
Aussie Rules top leagues is commonly known as the AFL. There are 18 teams competing in the league,
the same as the previous six seasons. The first game of the season was held on
Thursday, 22 March, and the season is scheduled to conclude with the 2018 AFL
Grand Final on Saturday, 29 September.
The opening tame was held Thursday, 22 March,
in the evening at the Melbourne Cricket Grounds. In the game Richmond 17.19 (121) defeated Carlton
15.5 (95) before a crowd of 90,151. The
second game of the season was held at
the Etihad Stadium last night, posing Essendon against Adelaide. Essendon 14.15 (99) defeated Adelaide 12.15
(87) before a crowd of 43,016. Today, St Kilda takes on the Brisbane Lions
at the Etihad Stadium, Port Adelaide
meets Fremantle at home, the Adelaide Oval, Gold Coast meets North Melbourne at
Cazaly's Stadium, and Hawthorn meets Collingwood in an evening match at the
Melbourne Cricket Grounds. Sunday's
matches include Greater Western Sydney vs. the Western Bulldogs at the UNSW
Canberra Oval, Melbourne vs. Geelong at the Melbourne Cricket Grounds, and West
Coast vs. Sydney at the Optus Stadium.
