New Zealand: Brent Newdick

New Zealand champion Brent Newdick at age 27, has great hopes for the 2012 Olympic games.

Born in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, and still with many supporters and fans in his
hometown, Newdick currently lives in Auckland, training with North Harbour Bays Athletic.

His International wins include a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2010, 4th place at the Commonwealth Games in 2006, and 16th at the 2004  World Junior Track and Field Championships held at Grossetto, Italy.

In 2011, Newdick stated "I'm in the best shape of my life and I'm definitely looking for a new personal best and to make sure I challenge that top 10..."  He is known as an athlete who is consistently good across the board, in shape to meet the challenges of all of the events of the decathlon, rather than excelling at just one or two.

A personal best in the third event of the Olympic Decathlon- the shot put - has him hovering just outside the top 10 in the Olympic standings.  The 27-year-old threw 15.09m on his second attempt - 25cm further than his previous best - to finish with the seventh-best distance and improve to 11th place overall.  Previously, Newdick had
clocked 11.10s for 100m and leapt 7.36m in the long jump, and entered the shot in 15th position.

All the best to Brent in these Olympic Games!
