Italy: Claudio Michel Stecchi Pole Vault

Claudio Stecchi  is an Italian pole vaulter.  He was born at Bagno a Ripoli on 23 November 1991, but was raised in the Chianti region, in Greve.  He attended the prestigious International School of Florence, and currently lives in Florence, where he competes with a local club, the Gruppi Sportivi Fiamme Gialle.

He is the son of the former Italian pole vaulter Gianni Stecchi (born 1958). His personal best is 5.60 m.

As a youth, he also competed in karate and water polo.  In 2005, he insisted that he wanted to pole vault for the first time, and learned the sport from his champion father.  He has continued to excel in this discipline since he started competing.

Robin Gibb RIP

Robin Gibb has died at age 62 after a battle with cancer.

Born on the Isle of Man in 1949, Gibb was from a musical family.  He was a well known member of the Bee Gees.  His younger brother Andy Gibb became a solo star.

Well known as being at the forefront of the Disco movement, with well known songs from Saturday Night Fever, the Bee Gees were already a force in Rock in the late 1960's and early 1970's with such songs as "I Started a Joke" and "New York Mining Disaster 1941"

Visitors to this site will probably better remember him for songs such as "Nights on Broadway" and "You Should be Dancing."  The Bee Gees became the poster children in the backlash against Disco, and their career was much diminished in the popular imagination through the 1980's.  You are invited to share any ways in which this music has affected you below.

Robin Gibb is survived by his mother, his brother Barry, and four children.

A Poem: How to Have an Interesting Life

How to Have an Interesting Life

Shun the smart crowds. Instead, mix
With the dumbest you could find.
They will teach you much, in fact,
Just about everything. They’ll show
You how inadequate you really are.

Sneer at beauty, especially all
Manifestations of glamor. Never
Forget that time brings all ugliness
And that we’re all hideous, at the core.
(Coeur.) If you see unblemished skin,

Peel it. To nourish your atrophied
Sense of empathy, practice mercy
Fucking at each opportunity, and try

To do it sober. Don’t, like every other,
Identify and align yourself with power.
Try to stop bobbing your head for once.
Instead, become a grudging or cheerful
Tool of the most impotent and inarticulate.

Short of suicide, always situate yourself
In the wrong place, at the worst time. Be
Vulnerable. If you are “at home,” you are

Not trying hard enough. Avoid amusement
Parks, especially MFA writing programs.

Chess King

A variety of clothes like they used to sell at Chess King.

Anyone go there? I remember being in awe UNTIL I was old enough to recognize good taste.

Still wish one were open though, now that my adult allowance is more than my childhood one...

I spose I can spend my cash at International Male and other replacement sources. I mean, how many places can you buy a poet shirt??? LOL

Anyone else have any memories to share?
